Man, 33, Struck, Killed In Electric Bike Crash On Jersey Shore

A 33-year-old electric bike rider who reportedly swerved into traffic was struck and killed in Toms River, authorities said.

The Little Egg Harbor man had not been identified.

Shortly after 8 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, Toms River police units were dispatched to Route 37 East at the intersection of River Drive for a crash. 

The initial investigation revealed the bicyclist was traveling west on the westbound shoulder of Route 37 East when he made a sudden left turn into traffic and was struck by a vehicle in the center lane of the highway, police said.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene, they said.

The bicyclist suffered severe injuries and was taken to Community Medical Center by Toms River EMS where he was later pronounced dead, police said..

The crash remains under investigation by Toms River Traffic Safety Officer Corporal Robert Westfall. 

Also assisting at the scene were the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department Crime Scene Investigation Unit and Hatzalah Volunteer EMS.
